Waste recycling

The Acea Group is involved in the treatment of sorted municipal, special hazardous and non-hazardous waste through plants distributed throughout the country. It also manages the recovery and recycling of materials such as paper, plastic, wood, glass, and metal from the separate waste collection of municipalities, institutions, and industries.
At the plants in Abruzzo, Marche, Piedmont, Umbria and Veneto, sorting and recovery of paper, iron, wood, plastic and metals, municipal waste, as well as separate collection of production waste, packaging and disposal is carried out, with a total authorized capacity of more than 630 thousand tons per year.
In the Lazio region Acea is involved in the transportation, disposal, and recovery of municipal, special hazardous, and non-hazardous waste, such as plastic, wood, glass, and metals originated from separate waste collection. 

The Group is particularly active in the plastic waste sorting and treatment sector.
Acea Ambiente operates plants in several Italian regions (Abruzzo, Marche, Piedmont, Umbria, and Veneto) in the plastics recycling supply chain, from sorting to valorisation. 
Specialised facilities, called first-stage territorial centres, deal with sorting plastic waste and pre-cleaning it from foreign bodies that could compromise subsequent processing.
Then the separation of plastics according to colour and their source polymer composition takes place to increase the possibility of use and dissemination of the material that will then be recycled.
The plastics recovery stage is then managed through the intermediation of Corepla—the Italian Consortium for the Collection, Recycling, and Recovery of Plastic Packaging—which ensures that plastic waste recycling and recovery targets are met.
The Group actively participates in the circular economy model through material recycling. In addition, Acea stands out in the area of plastic waste recycling through experimentation, research, and pilot projects, with a tangible commitment to a sustainable future.
