Since 1 January 2020, the prescription period for water bills, introduced by the 2018 Budget Law (Law No. 205/17), was reduced from 5 to 2 years for domestic use, small businesses, and professional freelancers. Final users included in the categories defined by the law and ARERA dispositions No. 547/19 and No. 186/20 can object to the payment of predated amounts included in water bills due after 1 January 2020.
How to request the prescription
The two-year prescription applies to bills that expire after 1 January 2020 and is not automatic. Customers must fill in the relevant form, available on the first page of the bill, which indicates the amount to which the prescription applies and includes information on where and how to send the signed form using the available communication channels:
