Procedure

You can request a check in the following cases:

  • metrology check (checking its correct function);
  • pressure check;
  • incorrect serial number check;
  • recording of fire-prevention characteristics.

In the event of a metrology check (correct function), the request does not exempt you from having to pay the relevant bill, which will, if necessary, be recalculated and reimbursed after the check is completed. In the event of late payment, late payment interest will be applied as envisaged by Art. 20 of the Integrated Water System Utility Regulation. This procedure does not apply to Acea ATO 5 customers.

This is what can happen after a check.

  • If an error of less than 5% is detected, the meter will be considered as properly functioning and you will be required to pay a fee for the check, which varies according to the type and size of the meter.
  • If the error is more than 5%, the meter will be considered as malfunctioning. Acea will proceed, at its expense, to change the meter and the current bills will be recalculated on the basis of average consumption in the last three years or, for lack of such, on the basis of the average annual consumption of users with the same type of use (Art. 30.6, ARERA (Regulatory Authority for Energy, Networks and the Environment, formerly AEEGSI) Resolution 655/2015).

How to send the request

To send a request for a metrology (correct function) check to the water company Acea Ato 2, download the form, fill it in and send it as indicated there.
Acea Ato 2 checks the meter directly on your premises without dismantling it.
The check, arranged by appointment with the customer or his/her delegate, entails verifying that the meter is in a good state of preservation, checking that the consumption is effectively registered when the taps are on and taking a reading of the numerical display.
Regardless of the result of the check, a copy of the report will be sent to the customer.
If the check finds that the meter works correctly (negative outcome), the costs of the on-site check, in line with the Utility Regulations, will be borne by the user and charged in the first useful bill, in the measure of €47.70 + VAT.
Instead, if the meter proves not to be compliant (positive outcome), the costs of the operation and of replacing the meter will be borne by Acea Ato 2, which will reconstruct the consumptions based on the average consumptions of the last three years or, if these are not available, based on the average annual consumptions of the users characterized by the same type of use (Article 30.6 of AEEGSI Resolution 655/2015).
Requesting a meter check does not exempt the user from paying any bill that may be recalculated and refunded based on the outcome of the check, if meter malfunctions have been detected.
Pursuant to Italian Ministerial Decree 93/2017, users can submit a request to have the utility meter verified at an accredited laboratory to the Chamber of Commerce of Rome. In such a case, Acea ATO2 will provide the technical assistance required to remove the meter to be subjected to a metrological check and simultaneously install a new meter.

To send a request to check the pressure, incorrect serial number or fire-prevention characteristics, to the water company Acea ATO 2, download the form, fill it in and send it as indicated there.

You can send a meter check (correct functioning) request to the water company Acea Ato 5, by downloading and completing the appropriate form and forwarding it via the procedures indicated therein.
Acea Ato 5 will test the meter directly at your premises without dismantling it.
Regardless of the test outcome, the customer will receive a copy of the report. If the check confirms that the meter is functioning correctly (negative outcome), the cost of the on-site check will be at the customer’s expense and the charge of € 70.00+VAT will be included on the next bill. On the other hand, if the meter is found to be non-compliant (positive outcome), the costs pertaining to the intervention and the replacement of the meter will be borne by Acea Ao 5 and the latter will reconstruct consumption based on the average for the last 3 years or, if such data is not available, based on the average annual consumption for customers with similar user characteristics (Article 30.6 ARERA Resolution 655/2015).
