The development of our trademark reflects the changes, that have led us to be the Group we are today.
During the years following its foundation (1909), the company felt no need for a logo as it was municipalised and did not have to advertise its services. The writing SPQR was a strong, very powerful symbol, a guarantee of stability and safety. In 1937, the capital's administration assigned to the company the management of the municipal water, so it changed its name to Governorship Electricity and Water Company (Agea). Only at the end of the war the name was changed into Municipal Electricity and Water Company (Acea).
In the 80s, the introduction of technologies to reduce environmental impact demonstrated to the public the company’s increased feeling of responsibility towards nature. The word "environment" was the reason behind the change in the logo: Acea became the acronym for Municipal Energy and Environment Company.
In 1992, Acea became a Special Company with an autonomous endowment fund and new articles of association. Precisely during this period, Acea felt the need to separate itself from the Municipality of Rome, also in terms of image. In the new logo, the letter "C" represents a stylised turbine and is repeated in three different colour ranges, representing the Company's various business activities: water (blue), energy (yellow) and the environment (green). From Special Company, Acea became a Public Limited Company.
Following admission to listing on the Italian Stock Exchange in 1999, Acea once again changed its trademark. Its new identity enclosed the universe between two curves, one orange, the other green. The new trademark focused on simple, dynamic shapes and colours to communicate the various different services.
In 2010, the Acea logo changed again and consisted of three different sized squares with the classic colours of our company. A continually developing trademark, capable of generating an extraordinary variety of combinations. A new visual identity, to stress the transformation of our industrial Group.
2017 saw the creation of the latest Acea logo, developed at the time of the "technological revolution" implemented with the Acea 2.0 programme, which led to the innovation of our systems and work processes and generated a profound cultural change.
The new logo reflects a combination of the letter "a" in Acea and the pin, the pointer which combines the physical and the digital world, a sign now recognised globally as the characteristic symbol of a place and an area. The basic colours for the Group's business segments, water, energy and the environment, combine to generate the new corporate logo: an explosion of bright, modern colours which, together with the pin, create a smart, digital brand.
