Work on the Basilica involved replacing 90 of the 130 existing led light projectors, pointing at the facade, the bell tower – the highest in Rome – and the Sistina and Paolina domes. Also the lighting systems in the loggia with the mosaics and the lower portico were renovated. Additionally, the bronze statue of the Virgin with Child at the top of the Column of Peace, the Corinthian column in the center of the piazza opposite the Basilica, was illuminated for the first time.

Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore
The Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore is one of Rome’s four Papal Basilicas (together with the Basilica of Saint John Lateran, Saint Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican City and the Basilica of Saint Paul Outside the Walls). It is located in the piazza that takes its name at the top of the Cispio Hill, one of the three smaller hills that form the Esquiline Hill. It is the only Basilica in Rome that maintains its Paleochristian structure, despite having been enriched with later additions.
