Acea - Exhibition 80 years of Peschiera Aqueduct - Palaexpo
Acea for World Energy Saving Day
With approximately 130 km of pipes, it is one of the largest spring water aqueducts in Europe and in the World.
Start of the process to construct the second line of the aqueduct system
For 80 years, it has guaranteed approximately 80% of the water supply for over 3 million residents in Rome, and for many Municipalities in the area of Rieti, Bassa Sabina and the northern coast of Lazio from Fiumicino to Civitavecchia.
The water flowing from the spring remains underground for 15-20 years before it can be supplied, which guarantees its high purity.
Water quality is monitored 24/7 by an operating room using sophisticated instruments, able to detect the chemical and physical parameters in real time.

The celebrations start with the first historical exhibition entitled "80th birthday for the Peschiera Aqueduct", dedicated entirely to the construction and development of the work, on show at Palazzo delle Esposizioni in Rome from 4 October to 4 November (free entry). The history of the aqueduct is shown in historic photos, original documents, videos of the period and installations. Designed in the early twentieth century, from 1938, the year the first stone was laid, its story has been closely linked to the socio-economic development of the Capital and the surrounding area.
Acea will collect and publish all the material exhibited.
On 10 October, a commemorative ceremony was held at the Peschiera springs for the 43 workmen, who fell while the aqueduct was being built, and a medal was dedicated to it. On the same day, the Exhibition "1938 – 2018, 80 years of the Peschiera Aqueduct" was inaugurated at the Arches of the Papal Palace in Rieti, open to the public with free entry until 5 November.
However, celebrations are not just an excuse to look at the past. To safeguard and upgrade this work of great strategic importance, the Acea Group decided to include safety measures for the aqueduct in its plans which specifically take into account the seismic risk.
In the near future, the Peschiera aqueduct will see an intervention, which has been almost 20 years in the waiting: a second pipe will ensure the water supply for Rome and Lazio. This investment shows Acea is committed to managing its own infrastructures and services sustainably.
