The heat produced at the power plant is distributed via underground pipes, and used for the remote heating of blocks of flats, shops, offices and homes.
The heat is used to supply the district heating network for the Rome districts of Mostacciano, Torrino sud and Mezzocamino, all managed by Acea.

District heating is one of the most innovative services offered to citizens by Acea. A safe service, as it does not require the installation of boilers in the buildings and individual homes, and economic as the tariffs applied are conveniently priced and the running and maintenance costs are all paid by Acea.
Having already undergone a major repowering, the Tor di Valle thermoelectric power plant has been further expanded with the construction, in 2021, of a third cogeneration unit comprising a 9.5 MW internal combustion engine, for an installed capacity of 28.5 MW.
The upgrading project implies numerous benefits. The higher yield of the thermoelectric power plant not only serves historic users, but also provides electricity for the Roma Sud Treatment Plant managed by Acea Acqua and all the extra energy produced can be transferred to the electricity network.
