Press Releases

The sporting club also promotes social development initiatives in the name of basketball and solidarity

Terni, 20 October 2022 Today the Council Chamber of the City Hall in Terni hosted the press release of Asd Pink Basket Terni, the women’s basketball team that, after winning 19 championships, will play in the national Serie B for the second year in a row. The President Massimiliano Porcu, the coach Francesco Piermarini, the CEO of Servizio Idrico Integrato, a subsidiary of the Acea Group, Tiziana Buonfiglio and the mayor of Terni Leonardo Latini, were present.

The event was an opportunity to announce the new team made up of fourteen young athletes of different nationalities, aged between 15 and 20: Italians, Americans, a Nigerian, one Latvian and one Ukrainian. They are Alessandra Falbo, Gaia Conti, Margherita Burini, Winner Batholomew, Eleonora Maglio, Emma Fausti, Monika Vapne, Marya Symolych, Anhelina Bondziuk, Erin Sezgin, Carlotta Conti, Agnese Gioli, Sophia Gadeyene and Keshi Promise.

Along with the team, a series of new projects were presented, in which the passion for sport transforms into solidarity and acts as a springboard to initiatives for social development, carried out thanks to the support of the Acea Group. The multiutility wanted to concretely show its link with this team and with the city it represents by promoting the values of sport combined with those of personal and social growth.

In fact, the basketball club has already started free mini basketball courses for girls, has created scholarships for Nigerian girls, who will be able to study and play basketball in Terni and take advantage of another scholarship which will open the doors of American schools and the famous NCAA college championship.

In collaboration with the Italian Paralympic Sports Federation of Relational Intellectuals (Fisdir, Federazione italiana sport paralimpici degli intellettivi relazionali), a project for boys and girls with autism or Down's syndrome will also start in 2023 involving more and more athletes with these difficulties in sport.

'The team’s goal' – said Asd Pink Basket Terni President Massimiliano Porcu – 'is to reach Serie A. An important goal both for us and for the city. To reach such goals, however, we must grow as a club, as a team and as people. This is why the partnership with the Acea Group is a positive aspect, because it binds us to a top-level national brand and offers a relevant support to our sports and social initiatives.'

'It is a great honour for the Acea Group' – said the Chief Operating Officer of Acea, Giovanni Papaleo in a greeting message sent to the participants – 'to support the women’s basketball team of Terni, which represents an important sports project with great social significance. We decided to bind our name to this club and this group of young women who, through sport, express the values of a city and a territory of which our utility feels as an integral part.'

'Being in the territory' – said again the CEO of SII Terni, Tiziana Buonfiglio – 'not only means to guarantee a quality service to users, but also to take root with care in the social community of reference. Our partnership with the amateur sporting club Pink Basket is an opportunity to share the healthy combination of social and competitive growth. Getting the ball to the basket, wearing a jersey made of an innovative antibacterial fabric, and doing so with care for the disadvantaged categories, makes us proud that the name and logo of Acea, a group with a growing vocation for sustainability and inclusion policies, are on that jersey.'

'Sport has always been a driving force for our territory', – said Mayor of Terni Leonardo Latini – 'For this reason, I greet with pleasure and enthusiasm this new adventure of Pink Basket Terni in women’s basketball Serie B. I am sure that the commitment, passion and professionalism of our directors, coaches and players will repay the great effort made. I am grateful to the whole environment of Pink Basket for the pride with which this team takes the name of Terni across Italy, and I wish them the best of success.'
