If your meter is uncovered or located somewhere too exposed to climate variations, insulation with isolating materials as polystyrene or polyurethane foam is required: these materials are the most effective as they isolate efficiently all devices from external environment. On the contrary, you should be discouraged from using newspapers or rags which, by absorbing water and humidity, could worsen the situation. It is useful also to protect the meter if located in an internal place but lacking heating system. However, the meter protection must leave the face uncovered to allow ordinary activities of consumption measurement.

If the meter is located in an empty building, it is recommended to close the meter’s tap upstream and empty the inside system.
