OCR Project

The Acea innovation team, through OCR technology (Optical Character Recognition) and the use of artificial intelligence, has developed a project aimed at citizens to support the processing of utility transfers and replacements. By simply inserting a photo of a previous bill, the software will fill in all the necessary fields (present in the bill), simplifying data entry and reducing the time required to conclude the contract process to just 3/5 minutes.

DepurArt Project

The project is born from the need of the Acea Group's Water area to raise awareness of the innovative purification plants in the area through guided tours, as if they were actual art galleries of technology and innovation. This tour allows to follow the entire water cycle via audio, photos and video and to find out which technologies the Acea group uses to introduce clean water into our territories. It is possible to follow two different itineraries, one for children and the other for adults.

Safety check 

Acea Elabori, in collaboration with the startup Beamdigital, has implemented this project focused on innovation and safety on construction sites. Through an NB-IoT connectivity system (communication system for a wide range of connected devices), it is possible to create a connected construction site and carry out remote checks on the safety conditions of the people who carry out their work.

Side

Acea and the startup Blue Tensor have developed a solution which, using Artificial Intelligence and Computer Vision algorithms applied to the images of secondary electrical substations, makes it possible to identify and classify their components to qualify non-digitised data (e.g. low voltage switches), with the aim of saving time compared to manual classification. This project aims to support Areti, a group company that deals with electricity distribution, in the digitisation of processes.

House of Emerging Technologies (CTE)

IThe first permanent Living Lab that is a candidate to become the workshop of ideas of Rome Smart City. The project is promoted by the Ministry of Economic Development, in collaboration with Rome’s universities (La Sapienza, Roma Tre, Tor Vergata and LUISS Guido Carli), with the partners Innova, LVenture and Peakaboo and with the corporate partners Acea, WINDTRE and TIM. CTE hosts themed events, workshops and call 4 ideas for the innovative ecosystem of the Municipality of Rome following two distinct paths: business acceleration and technology transfer.

Elis Open Italy

OPEN ITALY is the innovation ecosystem born within the ELIS Consortium, with the aim of fostering dialogue and collaboration between large companies, Italian Startups/SMEs and innovation enablers such as accelerators, research centres, Venture Capitalists and young talents through concrete innovation projects. A space where different kinds of stakeholders are confronted with the aim of developing innovative solutions in the Italian economic fabric, by promoting the culture of open innovation in Italy. Thanks to the collaboration with Elis Open Italy, Acea was able to develop numerous innovative projects, including the PASO project which received the EcoHiTech award.

Mind the bridge scale - UPS Summit

Acea is a partner of Mind The Bridge, an organization that promotes a sustainable and global entrepreneurial ecosystem. Through programs aimed at facilitating the collaboration between startups and international corporations, Mind The Bridge supports growth and relationship development through innovation and research.

Thanks to this partnership, Acea positions itself as an industry player within an international ecosystem that includes many scale-ups, highly innovative companies that have already gone through all the stages of development and have an advanced business model, as well as a product already present in the market. In 2022, the Innovation Antenna project was launched in Silicon Valley with the aim of stimulating innovative efforts, capturing emerging technologies and supporting startup scouting activities in the United States and Silicon Valley.

Polimi Digital Innovation Observatories

Born within the Politecnico di Milano with the aim of creating culture in all the main areas of digital innovation, the Observatories integrate research, communication and continuous updating. In 2021, Acea joined the Space Economy vertical observatory, to explore the technological opportunities and business impacts of the Space Economy and experiment with space technologies.

Acea collaborates with the National Association of Young Innovators (Associazione Nazionale Giovani Innovatori) to contribute to the promotion and development of innovation in Italy. As part of the national ANGI Award, the ANGI Innovation Leader Special Award is assigned in collaboration with Acea, and dedicated to young talents in the world of innovation.

Big Hack

Acea participates in The Big Hack, the programming marathon organised by Maker Faire Rome - The European Edition. in which developers, makers, engineers, designers, communicators, students and technology enthusiasts are invited to team up to respond to the innovation challenges launched by PAs, companies and research centres, developing innovative applications to improve aspects of daily life. 
Acea presents the challenge “GEO: Green, Ecological, Open Society”, the sustainability-themed challenge which is linked to the concepts of ecological and digital transition, with the aim of contributing to the achievement of the sustainable development goals of the United Nations 2030 Agenda. The challenge is an invitation to propose innovative solutions and services for citizens to make cities increasingly smart and sustainable.

Imprese per Innovazione Award

Acea received the Imprese per Innovazione (Businesses for Innovation) Award (IxI) for the Prize category, a recognition assigned by Confindustria to Italian companies that focus on innovation as a lever to "enhance the organisation and culture of the company itself".
Acea was also the winner of the Premio dei Premi, a national initiative established by the Presidency of the Council of Ministers on the mandate of the President of the Republic. It is awarded for the Industry and Services category to 9 winners of the IxI Award: the first three companies in the Large Enterprises category, and the first six in the Small and Medium Enterprises category.
