Acea takes part in the 10th edition of Maker Faire Rome - The European Edition
Innovators, creators, start-ups, companies, and students will meet in Rome at the Gazometro to celebrate the 10th edition of Maker Faire, the event which combines technological innovation driven by cutting-edge ideas and projects. As every year, Acea supports the event and participates as an exhibitor.
Self-driving drone, waste composting, robots, and smart benches for cleaning large spaces: these are the projects on display at Maker Faire 2022 at Acea's stand.
Acea and start-up Wesii present the MIDA (Monitoring Autonomous Drone Systems) project, a self-driving drone for the detection of energy losses of photovoltaic panels and subsequent maintenance. The drone and its hangar are inside the Acea stand.
Acea’s stand at Maker Faire Rome also hosts Smart Comp, the innovative diffused composting project for the management of organic waste. The main goal is to recovery material in the process of closing the waste cycle.
Pixies is a high-tech start-up which developed a system enabling autonomous mobile robots and smart benches to work together to clean large spaces, indoors and outdoors. The bench has the basic role of electric charging station, inside which the robots return autonomously once the cleaning is finished. It is a zero-impact system: thanks to solar panels, the robot uses deep learning algorithms to detect and collect waste separately.
In collaboration with start-up StartSmart, which makes people's training more efficient also through the use of VR, Acea’s stand hosts Virtual Reality stations.
The event starts with the opening conference entitled 'Commonground - Innovation keep us together'.
A theme which celebrates connected worlds, people, communities of changemakers who are redesigning the scenarios in which we live, inspiring a social change aimed at generating new and fluid models and solutions.
The stands and the scheduled events at the 10th edition of Maker Faire Rome range from digital manufacturing to the Internet of Things, from AI to robotics, from circular economy to agritech, including also issues related to biohacking, data science and aerospace.
Maker Faire Rome is the most important European event dedicated to innovation. It involves enthusiasts in co-designing, learning, training, and matchmaking and is a place where the key players of European innovation meet, share ideas and discover new things.
Acea at Maker Faire Rome, the initiative that promotes innovation and sustainability, introducing the latest industry 4.0 innovations applied to water and the environment: the water-saving app, drones for monitoring zero Co2 emission networks, and new augmented reality projects.
This year, the Acea stand is entirely dedicated to the Group's projects on innovation and development.

Augmented Reality: where the real and virtual worlds meet, for a full immersion in the technology of the future. Visitors at the stand will be able to test a simple 3D free-hand drawing App, and see for themselves the potential offered by technology and this device.
Acea is participating as a sponsor at Maker Faire Rome, a digital edition, introducing new technologies and projects to redesign the future of water and the environment. The group is presenting the Waidy App, which makes water fountains and distribution stations smart, and SmartComp, which transforms organic waste into compost with a positive impact on management costs and the environment.
For the water sector, Acea presents Waidy, the app designed to promote the smart use of drinking water fountains with an eye on sustainability: Waidy encourages the use of refillable bottles, contributing to reducing single-use plastic and to a responsible use of water.
For the environment and circular economy sector, Acea presents the new Acea Smart Comp, a project carried out in collaboration with Enea and Tuscia University. An innovative “zero kilometer” composting solution that allows to manage organic waste transforming it into compost on site, directly where it is produced.
On the occasion of the new edition of Maker Faire Rome, Acea has chosen two special artists to present the innovative projects of two startups: Paolo Ruffini and Diana Del Bufalo are the lifestyle coaches of Start Smart and Pedius, selected by Acea's Innovation team. The young talents are accompanied by the two artists on a storytelling journey to best communicate their brilliant ideas.
The project, in collaboration with Maker Faire, is inspired by the will to promote a competition based on technological and artistic creativity, in pursuit of an innovative Christmas illuminations design for the capital.
The title was won by the Medaarch studio which, with the design "Roma by Light Acea", will tell the story of the city using the images that have made Rome famous all over the world. The design includes a computerized management system which controls a series of cutting edge LED screens remotely, and a mobile virtual reality App that enables the user to access additional multimedia contents directly from their smartphone. Over 190,000 meters of optical fiber will be installed along Via del Corso, which will be illuminated by 115 spotlights designed to improve on the daily electricity consumption of traditional illuminations by approximately 45%.
Acea welcomes visitors to Maker Faire 2019 to its stand, guiding them through virtual reality on an immersive journey through the Water, Energy and Environment sectors. Among the novelties of this edition are mapping and environmental scanning as well as educational activities dedicated to students.
