Press Release

Great participation in the meeting on "Sustainability of Water Systems" organized by Gesesa and the University of Sannio.

This morning in Benevento, the meeting "Sustainability of Water Systems" took place, organized by Gesesa in collaboration with the University of Sannio. The event, which saw a great turnout, provided an important opportunity for dialogue between institutions, professionals and citizens on the sustainable management of water resources – an increasingly crucial topic both locally and globally.

Domenico Russo, President of Gesesa: "I am very satisfied with the prestigious meeting held in Benevento. I sincerely hope that all the valuable reflections we heard will soon be followed by concrete actions aimed at making the integrated water system in Benevento and its province truly sustainable. The first and most crucial action, which is well known to everyone, is the identification of a sole operator. I hope that the Region of Campania can finally start the dual-object tender process, which the Sannio Water District has been waiting for far too long, remaining the taillight of the entire Nation.

Gerardo Canfora, Dean of the University of Sannio: "The topic of the sustainability of water systems is of crucial importance, especially in the current context, which is characterized by increasingly limited water resources and a growing demand. As the University of Sannio, we are committed to promoting technological and scientific progress to support environmental and social sustainability. We firmly believe in the role of innovation in ensuring a more sustainable future.

The meeting, organized in collaboration with Gesesa, represents an opportunity to share experiences, reflections, and best practices in water management.  The goal is to raise community awareness and foster constructive dialogue between institutions, companies, and citizens, which can translate into concrete policies and actions. Only through a collective effort can we face the challenges ahead and improve the efficiency and resilience of our water systems."

Salvatore Rubbo, CEO of Gesesa: "With great satisfaction, we were able to organize a day in Benevento dedicated to a very timely topic that will shape our lives in the coming years."

The strong participation of the representatives from institutions, the media, and the public – each of them extremely engaged by the topics addressed by the prestigious speakers - has given us the concrete awareness that we have provided a valuable contribution of knowledge for the community and the Sannio area.  Speaking clearly and simply about highly complex topics has made it possible to highlight how the issue of sustainability of water systems, as well as water scarcity, cannot be addressed with a parochial mindset. As far as integrated water systems are concerned, the Sannio needs to make up for lost time, and it must do so quickly and together.

Luca Mascolo, President of the Campania Water Authority (EIC): "Today, with Gesesa and the University of Sannio, we tackled a crucial challenge for the future of the region. Sustainability in the management of water resources is a daily commitment that characterizes every intervention of the Campania Water Authority, from the redevelopment of networks, which have decreased from 54% to 34% over the last 7 years. Ambitious projects, such as Campolattaro Dam, which will propel the Region of Campania toward water autonomy by recovering 3,000 liters of water per second, lie at the core of our work, alongside with the regional project for hillside reservoirs and ongoing interventions to reduce water dispersion, with funds secured by the Campania Water Authority. Meanwhile, in the Sannio district area, we are committed to building a unified governance structure to ensure integrated and coordinated management of water resources – essential for providing every citizen in Campania an efficient, effective, and cost-effective service. We will continue working to maximize the natural resources of our region and protect its future, in line with our vision of a sustainable development."
