Basketball courses for disabled individuals and scholarships for athletes are among the social initiatives sponsored by the team and its partners.
Yesterday, the new Pink Basket Terni women's team was unveiled, marking its fifth consecutive year competing in the national Serie B. The press conference, held in San Gemini, featured notable attendees such as team president Massimiliano Porcu, coach Francesco Piermarini, Tiziana Buonfiglio, CEO of ASM (a company affiliated with the Acea Group, one of the team’s long-standing sponsors), San Gemini’s mayor Luciano Clementella, and Laura Pernazza, president of the Province of Terni. Also present were Roberto Brunamonti, former national player and head of women’s national basketball teams, Andrea Gianolla, former Serie A player, and SKY Sport journalist Luca Marchetti.
The 17 young athletes, aged between 15 and 20, hail from various nationalities, including Italian, South American, Latvian, Nigerian, and Albanian descent. They greeted their fans during the annual event held before the start of the championship, scheduled to begin on October 6th. The players are Krista Parma, Camila Berardi, Noemi Mustafa, Margherita Burni, Dyra Salazar, Monika Vapne, Melania Nobili, Maria Teresa Paluello, Sofia Gadeyene, Alessandra Falbo, Laura Purina, Eleonora Maglio, Agnese Giogli, Caterina Tirinzi, Sophia Ugiagbe, Alessia Margaritelli, and Emma Fausti.
Two key initiatives were also introduced, blending a passion for sports with the solidarity and inclusivity that have long defined the partnership between the Terni team and the Acea Group.
With Acea's support, the basketball association is offering scholarships for young athletes excelling in both English and basketball. These scholarships will provide the opportunity to attend U.S. colleges and compete in the NCAA championship. Additionally, free basketball courses have been organized for children with relational disabilities, recognized by the Italian Federation of Paralympic Sports.
“The team's goal” - said ASD Pink Basket Terni President Massimiliano Porcu - “is to reach Serie A, but for us, sports are deeply connected to society. We aim to grow not only as a sports organization but also as a group dedicated to social engagement. That’s why the support from a national industrial leader like ACEA is invaluable, helping us with both our sporting and inclusive, community-oriented initiatives.”
“The Pink Basket Terni project” - commented Tiziana Buonfiglio, CEO of ASM Terni, part of the Acea Group - “is an important initiative that blends sports with inclusivity, addressing a region where the Acea Group not only manages essential services but also contributes to its economic and social development. Being present in the territory means being deeply rooted, taking care of local communities, and supporting them by engaging in sports and solidarity-based activities.”
