October is pink: during the entire month, LILT provincial associations offer free breast examinations at their approximately 400 clinics across the country. For information and bookings, call the toll-free number 800 998 877.
Acea supports the initiative by lighting up pink the facade of Palazzo Senatorio to raise awareness about the importance of early diagnosis.
What is Pink October
The initiative started in 1992 in the United States, thanks to the commitment of Evelyn Lauder, who in 1992 opened the Evelyn H. Lauder Breast Center, dedicated to curing breast cancer.
It was her, together with her friend Alexandra Penney from Self Magazine, who founded the Breast Cancer Research Foundation and started using the pink ribbon as the symbol of breast cancer prevention. Today, millions of women are more careful and aware, also thanks to hundreds of buildings lit up with pink lights across the world.
