Acea Run Rome The Marathon 2024: #runforwater

The Rome Marathon carries a very important message: #runforwater The marathon serves as a megaphone to spread the message about the need to protect water, an essential resource for both the environment and our health.

The Acea Group has managed the entire water system of the Capital City for over a century, aware that managing water does not only mean administering the service, but also enhancing a resource which is part of the history and culture of the city and intertwines harmoniously with the architecture and urban landscape of Rome.

Acea invites citizens to adopt a healthy and sustainable lifestyle also through the Waidy Wow app which, thanks to its features, helps users to take care of a precious resource such as water, and to contribute to the reduction of CO2 emissions.

Acea Run Rome The Marathon is also committed to planting 3,000 trees in Guatemala, in the Petén region.

A project with a double goal:

  • Absorb CO2: the trees planted will help combat climate change by absorbing CO2 emissions.
  • Support local communities: the project will involve local farming families in the care and management of the forest, providing them with a source of income and food.

Rome Marathon 2024: the course

This year's 40,000 runners in the 2024 Rome Marathon will have the opportunity to follow a new, faster and smoother route, which will no longer run through Piazza Venezia, but will head south from Via dei Fori Imperiali, the starting point of the marathon.
The Acea Run Rome The Marathon will start at the foot of the Colosseum on 17 March and will unfold along a 42.195 km route that will take in some of the most evocative and characteristic places in the capital.

Historic landmarks such as the Baths of Caracalla, the Pyramid of Caius Cestius, Castel Sant'Angelo, St Peter's Basilica and Piazza di Spagna with its famous Spanish Steps will be the backdrop for the sporting event. The event will also include some of the capital's most symbolic sporting and cultural venues, such as the Foro Italico and the Auditorium Parco della Musica, before the finish line at the Imperial Fora.

Rome Marathon: History

Acea's link with the Marathon testifies to its profound closeness to the Capital where it has been operating for over 110 years to guarantee quality services to the territory and people every day. It was 2 April 1906 when the Emilian Dorando Pietri won the first Rome Marathon by crossing the finish line in Piazza di Siena. Some of the most significant historical moments of this sporting event include the 1960 Rome Olympics, with the feat of the Ethiopian athlete Abebe Bikila, known to all for his barefoot race. But the marathon that we all know today took shape in 1995 thanks to the Italia Marathon Club, which in just a few years made the Roma City Marathon the number one Italian race in terms of participation and importance, winning the IAAF Gold Label in 2011. In recent years, the competition has continuously evolved until reaching its current form and reputation.
