Coockie policy

Extended statement on the use of cookies

In accordance with Article 13 of EU Regulation 679/2016 (hereinafter, “GDPR”) concerning the protection of personal data, and pursuant to the measures dated 8 May 2014 and 5 June 2015 adopted by the personal data protection Authority in relation to cookies, Acea SpA is pleased to provide you with clear and transparent information pertaining to the use and handling of cookies installed on the domain and its subdomains, namely other domains accessible via the website.

Cookies are small text strings (normally comprising letters and numbers) which allow a website to recognise a particular device or browser; these text files are, in fact, sent by websites to the browser utilised by the user for navigation and are subsequently memorised on the user’s device (e.g. Computer, Tablet, Smartphone, etc.) and retransmitted to the site in question during the user’s next visit.

There are various types of cookie, which have different characteristics and can be classified as follows:

- session cookies: these are removed immediately when the navigation browser is closed;

- persistent/permanent cookies: these remain on the device and continue to operate even after the browser has been closed and until a certain period of time has elapsed;

- first-party cookies: these are generated and managed directly by the operator of the website within which the user is navigating;

- third-party cookies: these are generated and managed by parties other than the operator of the website within which the user is navigating (normally under a contract between the website owner and the third party).

The cookies are ascribable to three functional macro-categories: technical cookies, analytical cookies and profiling cookies:

  • technical cookies, these are generally necessary in order for the website to function correctly and to allow navigation; without these, the navigator would not be able to correctly display the pages or utilise certain services. For example, a technical cookie is essential to maintain the user’s connection throughout the visit to the website, or to memorise the settings concerning language, display, and so on. These cookies can be differentiated as:
    - navigation or session cookies (these ensure normal navigation and use of the website);
    - functionality cookies (these allow the user to navigate according to a series of selected criteria - for example a set language – with a view to enhancing performance of the service).

For the purpose of installation and utilisation of technical cookies, no consent is required from the party concerned.

  • analytical cookies.   These cookies are used to collect and analyse website traffic and utilisation. The cookies in question, whilst they do not identify the user, make it possible, for example, to detect whether the said user reconnects at different times. They also allow monitoring of the system and enhancement of its performance and usability. These cookies may be disabled without any loss of function. If utilised anonymously, without permitting any cross-reference with data already known, and to collect information, on an aggregate basis, regarding the number of users and how they visit the website, they are treated as technical cookies. In the latter case no consent is required from the party concerned.
  • profiling cookies. These cookies are utilised to identify and trace the preferences shown by the user while surfing the web, for example allowing the possibility to transmit targeted advertising messages. This website does not make use of first-party profiling cookies;
  • third-party cookies (installed by a third-party website operator through the website being visited by the user - Linkedin, YouTube, etc...). Regarding these operating  entities and related cookies Acea SpA is not in a position to exercise a specific control. In order to obtain information on their characteristics and operating procedures and give the related specific consent, the links provided below should be used or the said third parties should be contacted directly. The user can normally prevent utilisation of third-party cookies also by way of the appropriate option available in the browser. In this connection reference is made to the indications set out in the section "how to manage cookies".

The website uses:

- technical cookies with a view to ensuring the correct working of website content;

- third-party analytical cookies (Google Analytics, etc..) for an anonymous and aggregate analysis of navigator behaviour on the site itself, and cookies associated with social plugins;

The characteristics of the cookies utilised on are described in the following table:
