Water supply of the Municipality of Campagnano di Roma

Description and objectives

The activity consists in the elaboration of the Feasibility Document of Design Alternatives (DOCFAP), aimed at defining the treatments to be carried out and the connections to be made to the existing works for the water supply of the Municipality of Campagnano di Roma. The objective is to guarantee a safe hydropotable source to the water network, through the treatment of local well waters for the removal of pollutants with values above the limits imposed by Legislative Decree no. 18 of 23 February 2023.

Project alternatives

  • Alternative 1A:
    • Intervention: mixing the local water with a part taken from the Peschiera aqueduct, in sufficient quantity to reduce the fluoride content.
    • Flow rate: local waters from the La Mola wells (21.5 L/s) and Pozzo del Salvatore well (3.5 L/s) and a significant portion from the Peschiera aqueduct (30 L/s).
    • Purpose: to ensure drinkability by means of a higher portion of withdrawal from the Peschiera aqueduct.
  • Alternative 1B:
    • Intervention: mixing of local waters with a part taken from the Peschiera aqueduct to ensure drinkability.
    • Flow rate: local waters from the La Mola wells (5 L/s) and from Pozzo del Salvatore well (2 L/s) with an increase in the flow rate from the Peschiera aqueduct (43 L/s).
    • Purpose: to ensure drinkability by means of a higher portion of withdrawal from the Peschiera aqueduct.
  • Alternative 2:
    • Intervention: increase in local resources without withdrawals from the Peschiera aqueduct with local treatments to make the water drinkable.
    • Flow rate: water from La Mola wells (65 L/s) and Pozzo del Salvatore well (3.5 L/s).
    • Treatment: removal of arsenic, iron, manganese and fluorides through specific processes (filtration, oxidation and reverse osmosis).
    • Purpose: to treat the local waters entirely, in order to make them drinkable, without the need to withdraw from the Peschiera aqueduct.
  • Alternative 3:
    • Intervention: increase in local collection without involving the Peschiera aqueduct with different connections and discharge methods.
    • Treatment: removal of arsenic, iron, manganese and fluorides through specific processes (filtration, oxidation and reverse osmosis).
    • Purpose: to ensure drinkability through complete treatment of local waters without withdrawals from the Peschiera aqueduct.

Analysis and choice of the Solution:

To determine the most advantageous solution, a multi-criteria analysis was carried out. The technical solution chosen represents the best compromise between sustainability, implementation times, impact on the territory and costs. The expected benefits include the definitive resolution of the problems related to the water supply for the Municipality of Campagnano di Roma.
