Revamping Depuratore Santa Marinella Nord

Description and objectives

The adaptation project of the Santa Marinella Nord purification plant includes a series of works aimed at improving the efficiency of wastewater treatment.

Project details:

  • Adaptation of a secondary sedimentation unit by dividing it into two functional units:
    • The first unit for powering the actual system, with a capacity of up to 3 Qmn.
    • The second unit for the accumulation of rainwater, with a capacity of up to 2 Qmn.
  • Transformation of trickling filters
    • Conversion of the two existing trickling filters into a “single basin” system that includes the denitrification and nitrification phases of the treatment.
  • Secondary sedimentation
    • Implementation of a new secondary sedimentation phase.
  • Electrical cabinets
    • Construction of a new MV/LV cabinet.
    • Adaptation of the existing electrical transformer cabinet.
  • Control software:
    • Updating of the command and control software for the regulation of air during oxidation.
  • Service yards
    • Arrangement of service yards.
  • Conversion of trickling filters
    • Transformation of two trickling filters into combined basins that include pre-denitro, oxidation-nitrification, recirculation of sludge and nitrates, secondary sedimentation.
  • New head lift
    • Construction of a new lifting system for the system.
  • Rainwater treatment
    • Adaptation of an existing basin for rainwater treatment.

The work programme has been designed to minimise interference with the management and maintenance activities of the existing works, which continue to operate during all phases of work.
