New biofiltration section at the Roma Sud Purification Plant

Description and objectives

The project involves the construction of a new biofiltration macro-module in the Roma Sud Purification Plant. This new system is located between the existing second biofiltration line (modules 3 and 4) and the second primary sedimentation section.

Project details:

  • Structure of the macro-module
    • Composed of two parallel modules.
    • Each module is divided into multiple unit filtration cells.
  • Processing capacity
    • The two new modules can handle a total flow rate of approximately 2 m³/s.

With the creation of the two new modules, it is possible to carry out a secondary treatment on the entire incoming flow and complete all the interventions on the sewage line provided for in the general plant adaptation plan. In addition, the new system guarantees a significant increase in the overall purification efficiency, and provides an adequate safety margin compared to possible out-of-service treatment units, ensuring continuity of service.
