New Peschiera Aqueduct
As part of the ACEA-CNR Framework Agreement, the BIOREF research project was carried out in collaboration with IRSA-CNR. This project, based on the bioeconomy, aims to promote a new, more sustainable economic model. The experimental activity focuses on the integrated enhancement of sewage sludge and the organic fraction of municipal waste, exploiting the production potential of compounds with high added value, such as long-chain fatty acids.
Project details
The project was financed by Acea Infrastructure with an amount of €40,000 for the two-year period 2020-2021, intended for the fine-tuning of the process. The first phase of the project ended with the filing of a patent on the process developed, demonstrating the innovative potential of the research.
In the 2022-2024 three-year period, the project continued with a further funding of €75,000, with the aim of industrially scaling up the results obtained in the first phase. This next step aims to convert a mixture of urban organic waste, such as sewage sludge and the wet fraction of waste, into platform chemicals of industrial interest and bioenergy, aiming for a significant impact in terms of sustainability and innovation in the treatment and valorisation of urban waste.
