Adaptation of the La Chiusa purification plant

The project aims to improve the sludge line of the "La Chiusa" sewage purification plant in Velletri, which serves a large part of the municipal territory with a capacity of 40,000 equivalent inhabitants (e.i.). This intervention is aimed at complying with the limits established by Legislative Decree 152/06 and the Regional Water Protection Plan (RWPP) of Lazio, thus protecting the receiving water body, Fosso della Regina.

Project Objectives:

• Adapt the system to comply with current regulations.
• Improve the efficiency of sludge treatment.
• Reduce odour emissions and improve air quality.
• Increase the safety and functionality of the system.

Planned Interventions:

• Medium and fine sieving
  • Improvements in sieving units to filter debris.
• Rainwater treatment
  • Creation of a section dedicated to rainwater treatment.
• Treatment of waste sludge
  • Construction of a new aerobic stabilisation basin.
  • Installation of a circular thickening tank.
  • Replacement of the existing press belt with a new high-performance centrifuge.
  • Construction of a containment box for the sludge box.
• Covers and air treatment
  • Installation of aluminium covers on the sludge thickening and stabilisation tanks.
  • Installation of an air treatment system for these units and for mechanical dehydration.
• Carpentry and equipment
  • Installation of metal structures, iron works, electromechanical equipment and machinery for treatment units.
• Deodorisation
  • Creation of a new section for the deodorisation of emissions, using a biofilter and a scrubber.
• Adjustment of the medium/low voltage transformer section
  • Installation of a new MV panel and two 800 kVA transformers.
  • Construction of a new prefabricated concrete box for the LV general framework.
• Internal viability and arrangement of green areas
  • Expansion and arrangement of internal roads.
  • Creation of new flooring, tree planting and reprofiling of the escarpment behind the current digestion basin.

  • Securing a dangerous building by means of wooden restraint underpinning.
